Anglo Platinum Bursary Scheme (Accounting, Engineering and Mining) – Closing 15 May 2015

Anglo American Platinum offers comprehensive bursaries for tertiary studies and practical routes towards all the careers in engineering. A Grade 12 academic level with a minimum of 60% achieved for Pure Mathematics, Physical Science and English is required for applicants to be considered for a bursary in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical /Metallurgical Engineering, Geology, Rock Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, Mine Surveying and Finance and Information. (Physical Science is not required for Finance and Information).

Access Trust (FET College Bursaries) – Closing 31 March 2015

The Access Trust provides financial support to students studying at FET College in the Western Cape. Bursaries are for full-time post-matric courses at Western Cape Public FET colleges only for: NQF Levels 4 – 5, N4-N6 business and N1-N6 engineering; engineering practicals if the applicant has a technical matric or has completed at least N2 in engineering.

Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation

The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation aims to stimulate, celebrate and reward innovation and entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan Africa. The Africa Prize encourages ambitious and talented sub-Saharan African engineers from all disciplines to apply their skills to develop scalable solutions to local challenges, highlighting the importance of engineering as an enabler of improved quality of life and economic development. Crucial commercialisation support will be awarded to a shortlist of innovative applicants through a six month period of training and mentoring. Following this period of mentorship, finalists will be invited to present at an event held in Africa and a winner will be selected to receive £25,000 along with three runners-up who will be awarded £10,000 each. Applicants must be individuals or groups of no more than three people. Individual applicants must be citizens of a country within sub-Saharan Africa and currently reside there. For teams of two or three, the lead applicant must be a citizen of a country within sub-Saharan Africa and currently reside there. Applicants must be engineers who can provide a letter of support from a university of research institution.

Glencore Coal South Africa Bursary Programme – Closing 31 May 2015

Bursaries are available for the Mining Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, B Com (Financial Management) and Geology Discipline.Please note the minimum requirements: Engineering disciplines, candidate must obtain a minimum rating of 6 (70%-79%) in mathematics and science, 5 (60%-69) English and as per requirement of institutions. The candidate must obtain a minimum rating 5 (60%-69%) in Mathematics, Accounting and English to be considered in Finance. Successful candidates will be required to sign a service obligation with Xstrata Coal SA.

IDC Bursary Programme – Closing 31 May 2015

IDC has a bursary programme that assists selected learners who are academically talented but lack financial resources to pursue higher education. The programme focuses mainly on law, commerce, science and engineering and covers tuition, accommodation and books. South African citizens with a valid ID number residing in the Republic of South Africa and who qualify for admission to a University or University of Technology and TVET (Technical vocational education and training) college, and are not studying with the aid of an employer or bursary). Applicants must have grade 12 Maths and Science with a minimum of a B aggregate symbol.

Minerals Qualifications Authority (MQA)

The MQA bursary scheme was established to increase the number of students taking careers in the mining and minerals sector. Today the bursary scheme continues to assist students by offering them the opportunity to study these careers at Higher Education and Training (HET). Bursars entering their second or third year of study who meet the requirements as specified in this criteria. Bursaries will be awarded to students enrolled in the MQA identified scarce and critical skills list. Preference will be given to students enrolled in Mining disciplines.

2016 Hugh le May Fellowship for South Africans at Rhodes University, South Africa - Closing 31 July

Rhodes University is offering three and six months residential Fellowship in alternate years to senior scholars. Only qualified applicants should apply i.e. At the conclusion of the Fellowship, the Fellow will be required to present a report on the work undertaken. Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Scholarships for International Students in UK - Closing 22 May

University of Strathclyde is offering international excellence scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate Masters Courses (excluding MSc Clinical Pharmacy) within the Faculty of Science. The student must be paying full international fees. Each scholarship has a value of up to £3500 to be used towards the cost of tuition fees. Successful undergraduate students will receive this for each year of their degree, subject to satisfactory progress.
